Moonstone is magical. There’s really no other way to describe it. The way it catches the light, and the shimmer of rainbows dancing in stone is truly mesmerising. I love finding moonstone jewellery and am always drawn to its magical energy, which makes it one of my favourite stones to wear.
Rainbow Moonstone is actually white labradorite, but the term ‘rainbow moonstone’ was coined by the gemstone and mineral communities to describe the unique appearance of the stone. The largest deposits of rainbow moonstone are found in Sri Lanka, but it is also found in Brazil, India, Mexico, Australia and Tanzania.
Rainbow moonstone is the archetypal stone of lunar energy and the feminine spirit, with its lustre and colour reminiscent of moonlight. This rainbow iridescence is caused by light reflecting off the complex internal structures inside the stone. Moonstone is often used to promote fertility, empathy and emotional balance, and has a generally soothing and calming effect. These properties are further enhanced when moonstone is set in sterling silver, as silver is believed to amplify the energy of stones and crystals, and has also come to represent the sacred feminine and embody the magic of the moon ~ they really are the perfect pairing!
